Ways to Give

Over 40 million people rely on the Legal Information Institute [LII] each year to find and understand the laws that govern them. Your one-time or monthly gift will directly support the small staff and computing facilities we require to make law free and open for everyone. On behalf of all those who wish to know their rights and responsibilities under the law, thanks for your support!

You can use our convenient online giving platform for a one-time, or recurring gifts. A donation receipt will be sent to you at the email address you provide when checking out.

DONOR ADVISED FUND

Use your tax-deductible donor-advised fund (DAF) to make a gift to LII:

You can most likely go into your external DAF portal and request that they issue us a grant (Legal Name: Cornell University, Federal Tax Identification Number: 15-0532082 ). Your administrator will typically mail the check to the primary address they have on file for Cornell, or your administrator may send us the funds electronically. In either regard, is important that we are made aware of this forthcoming gift, whether it’s by mail or electronically so that we can ensure that it is properly allocated and designated. We encourage you to email our Gift Cashier at cugiftcashier@cornell.edu with the following information:

Name of DAF administrator

Amount of the forthcoming check

Area of designation at Cornell

Date of distribution request

Need further help directing your gift to Cornell? Give us a call at 1-800-279-3099, or email cfund@cornell.edu. Please note that gifts from your external donor-advised fund may take some time to arrive at Cornell, and we encourage that year-end distributions be timed appropriately.

FAQ

Is my donation secure?

Absolutely. Your information’s security and confidentiality is the highest priority of both Cornell and Classy.org, the software platform provider we use to collect and transfer donations and donor information. The donation process uses industry-standard SSL (secure socket layer) technology to protect your information and provide a safe and secure environment for online donations. More information about Classy and its policies is available through the links at the bottom of the donation page.

Do I get a receipt?

A donation receipt will be sent to you at the email address you provide when checking out. Please be sure to keep a copy of your receipt for tax purposes. If you select a recurring donation, you will be sent an individual receipt each month when your donation is processed.

What does my donation support?

All donations received via LII donation pages go to Cornell University, but are restricted for use only by the Legal Information Institute to carry out its mission and operations.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

We are part of Cornell University, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, so your donation is tax-deductible within the guidelines of U.S. law. To claim a donation as a deduction on your U.S. taxes, please keep your email donation receipt as your official record. We’ll send it to you upon successful completion of your donation.
