FAI

LII is a formal advisor to the National Science Foundation-funded project FAI: Using AI to Increase Fairness by Improving Access to Justice. The FAI project received its initial funding in early 2021, and LII became involved on its advisory committee from the outset. Two of our technologists with experience in legal informatics research, Dr. Syvlia Kwakye and Matt Carey, joined the FAI research team, exploring techniques and providing feedback on evaluation.

The FAI project is chaired by Professors Diane Litman and Kevin Ashley, both of the University of Pittsburgh. Other advisory members include the Canadian Legal Information Institute and the Harvard Legal Innovation Laboratory.
